Framing the Problem- Issues and Questions

Major Issues:

  • There has been hard metals that have been deposited on the river bed in the past, which have been remediated.
  • The majority of the zones or land use along the river is residential, commercial, and academic/institutional. A great deal of houses are located in the flood plane.
  • Industrial parcels to the north either need to be remediated or repurposed.

Questions:

  • What is the current condition of the industrial parcels to the north of Winchester Center?
  • How can parkland be repurposed to dampen the effects of flooding?
  • Will slowing the flow of the Aberjona River alleviate the effects of flooding?
  • Do houses in high risk areas be removed or can the landscape act as a barrier?
  • How can both passive and active space be incorporated with creating spaces for remediation?
